The Immersive Training Playbook
Immersion can mean many things. It can be about creating an imaginary world while reading a book or listening to a podcast. Or seeing yourself in the main character of a movie or game, and experiencing the same emotions. Immersive training is not far removed from that principle. It is about how you design the course so that learners can emotionally engage themselves. After all, that's how people learn best. When they emotionally connect to a lesson, they tend to remember it longer and find it easier to apply that knowledge on the job.
This Playbook argues that certain kinds of immersion might divert the learner from their training objective. Instead, stylized or slightly simplified visuals often work better.
When learners have the opportunity to fill in the gaps themselves, that imaginative participation actually deepens engagement. But when content promises full realism, every single detail has to be perfect. The lighting, the voice, the expressions, the timing. Even if one thing is slightly off, the whole illusion collapses.
A stylized approach provides learners with the space to engage. It also gives designers the freedom to create experiences that feel authentic without having to be flawless.
